Winner In A Week is a poker-strategy website that contains the essential information and resources you’ll need to dominate the great majority of home games as well as cash games and tournaments in online card rooms and at the live poker tables in brick-and-mortar casinos. Much of the content published throughout the site (e.g., strategies and tactics, the poker-strategy blogs and numerous downloadable poker tools and statistics for improving your game) is provided for you completely free of charge. Enjoy!
Over the years, many of my friends and recreational poker players around the world have asked me for advice on how to improve their respective games. A smaller sub-set of this group, those who understand games as mirrors of universal principals, are fundamentally more interested in learning how to “play optimally” in a much broader sense, i.e., in all comparable “infinite games” of “imperfect information.” The exchange with these people in multiple countries and languages has been extremely rewarding and also greatly solidified my own game. This process, years of intense study and analysis of all forms of poker and (most importantly) over two decades of experience in live and online card rooms on four continents has ultimately resulted in the essential knowledge pertaining to all of the most popular forms of the game, which my brother and I are very happy to share with you here.
In the words of Bruce Lee, please “empty your cup,” and enjoy all aspects of the game, independently of your results. The coaching and information provided at this site should, as is the case with all information you receive, not be taken as definitive truth, rather as recommendations and general guidelines for tactically and strategically sound play.
The long-term aim of this website is to provide you with all of the information and means that you’ll need to become a true winner in the broadest sense of the term and in the shortest amount of time.
All the best … both on and off the felt!
A Brief Overview of My Poker Background
As a native of Austin, Texas (with dual U.S./Australian citizenship), I grew up playing all forms of poker. These years of live experience were very useful (especially for reading players in brick-&-mortar casinos and card rooms) but not enough to become an expert. Therefore, I actively studied the game (as well as chess and go) in great detail: strategy and tactics, psychology, player-profiling, game theory essentials, poker math, etc.
Since 1999, I’ve played live fixed-limit, pot-limit and no-limit cash games and tournaments (primarily Texas Hold ’em, 7-Card Stud, Omaha and occasionally 5-Card Draw/Stud) at casinos and card rooms throughout the U.S., Central and South America, Spain, Germany and Australia. Since 2008, I’ve also been playing at multiple online casinos and have seen well over 850K hands in virtually all cash-game and tournament variants provided as of January 2014.
Whenever and wherever possible, I enjoy reviewing and analyzing hands with fellow poker experts. Additionally, I’m a member of various poker-strategy websites and forums, which has been invaluable for my own game, not only for the acquisition of new information and perspectives, but also and especially for learning how the competition thinks (or doesn’t think) at the respective limits.
I also offer personal poker coaching to novice and advanced recreational players who have a lot of potential. I consider my work complete when a former student transforms into an opponent whom I would actively avoid in games were my primary objective is financial profit. It’s always a great joy to watch an intelligent gambler become a strong, poised and highly skilled player! In this endeavor, both at the poker tables and in life, I wish you all the best.
